Choose and Review - "Say What?" Again

I am really loving this “Say What?” feature in the Friend magazine. Like the feature in the July issue, the phrases on this clever list in the January, 2011 issue does not make sense until you say them fast, several times. "Say What?" this month includes ten things that we should do to be a faithful follower of Jesus Christ. This certainly works with our upcoming themes.

These nonsense phrases work so well for singing time. Just assign a review song for each phrase and put them in a can or basket to draw from. The kids love the absurdity! I love how it trains them to listen. I also like the flexibility. If I keep these phrases handy in my primary box, I can easily fill a few minutes of extra time. I wish I were as clever and Brother Phares. The names of primary songs, or phrases from the songs would be so fun.

I've been reading your blog so faithfully that I'm starting to think like you! I have been using this activity from the Friend for a little time-filler this month. All the primary teachers thought I was a genius until I revealed that I got the silly phrases from the Friend. The Friend really is an awesome resource.

I would suggest you buy the game Mormon Mouthful. You would love it! It is like the Say What from the Friend. An entire game of LDS words and phrases like that. So much fun to play with a group and you would have plenty you could use for Primary!!

I also thought the Word Puzzles from February's Friend (I just got mine today) were a great idea. I don't know how to describe them, but they move the words around to make you figure out the phrase. Several of the ones they used were Primary songs or hymns and I think my senior kids would enjoy them.

I wish I were that creative too!

Thank you for the suggestions! I didn't know about the game and I'll take a second look at the word puzzles. I do so love the Friend. Tiffany, you make me laugh. ;o)

I know it has been a while since you posted this, but I did find a list the same man made up for a bunch of these "mad gab" phrases for primary songs too! (It's also called Say What - must have been from the Friend also.) Here's the link: http://www.sugardoodle.net/joomla/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=5793

And thank you for your blog! I love your ideas!!!
